Summary of the position:

Manages the Supplier Quality resources to reduce supply chain quality risks. Maintains the Supplier Quality System elements of the Supplier Management Process (SMP). Drives continuous improvement of supplier component quality (increase lifecycle, reduce scrap, improve processes) and holds suppliers accountable for producing defect-free parts within specifications. Monitors Supplier Quality Performance (PPM) and audits supplier internal processes. Accountable for the development, implementation, monitoring and maintenance of Supplier Quality processes and procedures. Directs a team of strategic and tactical Supplier Quality Engineers.  This position is a working lead/supervisor position.  The intent for this position is to transition into a Supplier Quality Manager role after proven experience at Sullair with the role of Supplier Quality Lead.

The position will be at the Sullair Michigan City manufacturing location.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Develops principle strategy for Supplier Quality risk mitigation.
  • Acts as key interface between Suppliers.
  • Manages Supplier Quality Staff including assignments, goals, project work and developmental opportunities.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships and effective lines of communication with suppliers, requiring that all Sullair Supplier Quality personnel work toward Partnership-oriented arrangements.
  • Drives continuous improvement throughout the Sullair Supplier’s Quality Systems.
  • Establishes, revises, and communicates Supplier Quality expectations.
  • Responsible for Supplier Quality Assessments/Audits: System, Process and Product.
  • Reviews FMEAs, Control Plans and related supplier documentation to ensure adherence to standards.
  • Coordinates PAPPs with suppliers onsite at Supplier facility.
  • Escalates delivery, manufacturing, cost and/or quality issues to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Coordinates cross-functional teams to determine root causes and implements and assesses countermeasures.
  • Applies advanced understanding of ISO 9001.
  • Applies Lean and Six Sigma methodologies including not limited to: Value Stream Mapping, Cpk/Ppk,GR&R, SPC, Sampling Plans, Kaizen, 5S, Statistical Analysis, SMED, 5 Why’s, Root Cause Analysis, VOC, QFD, Error Proofing, Robust Design, Cause and Effect Diagrams and Pareto Analysis.
  • Engagement with Sullair China to develop a global Supplier Quality System.
  • Up to 25% travel, including International.



  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technical Field is preferred.
  • A combination of formal training and directly related experience the equivalent of eight or more years of progressive experience can be substituted.

Professional experience:

  • Previous Supplier Quality experience at a Senior/Lead or Manager Level is highly preferred.
  • Advanced Quality Planning experience including exposure to AIAG Quality Planning and Control Plan, FMEAs, PAPPs MSA and SPC Standards.
  • In depth mastery of ISO 9001 is required.
  • Auditor or Lead Assessor Certification is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in Auditing (CQA) preferred.
  • Experience in Advanced Quality Planning and Control Plans is highly preferred.
  • Experience with database programs, project management, and statistical software is preferred.
  • Six Sigma Certification (SSBB/GB) preferred.
  • ASQ Certifications (CQM, CQA, CQE) preferred.
  • Ability to think critically, actively listen, manage projects and effectively communicate.
