Summary of the position:

Supplier Quality Engineer - Tactical is responsible for establishing and maintaining a professional proactive relationship between the organization and the quality department for each supplier. They will be the lead contact concerning supplier component quality and will be responsible for obtaining complete problem resolution with the goal of zero defects through continuously improving the suppliers’ internal processes. In addition, they will be responsible for monitoring supplier quality performance (PPM) and actively work with the supplier on corrective actions to obtain stated departmental goals.

The position will be at the Sullair Michigan City manufacturing location.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Executes a supplier improvement strategy for the facility.
  • Measures and drives supplier performance improvements for quality using 8D and other quality tools.
  • Leads team with Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations, and Supplier on root cause analysis for quality issues.
  • Participates in the Material Review Board.
  • Maintains and communicates supplier performance to the organization by maintaining performance databases.
  • Drives communication with supplier to improve process capability of supplied products.
  • Works with supplier on process evaluation and continuous improvement.
  • Actively participates in supplier selection and qualification with a Supply Chain and Engineering, Warranty, etc.
  • Assists supplier with PPAP submissions.
  • Reviews PPAP Submissions, FMEAs, Control Plans and other supplier documentation for adequacy.
  • Conducts supplier quality audits of potential new suppliers and current suppliers: system, process and product.
  • Fully understands, interprets, and audits to ISO 9001:2015.
  • Knowledgeable with hands on experience in the application of Lean and Six Sigma including the following tools:  Value Stream Mapping, Cpk/Ppk, GR&R, SPC, Control Plans, Sampling Plans, Kaizen, 5S, Statistical Analysis, SMED, 5 why’s, Root Cause analysis, VOC, QFD, Error Proofing, Robust Design, FMEA, Cause and Effect Diagrams, Pareto Analysis, etc.
  • Sustains continuous review, revisions, and communication of supplier related documentation.
  • Works with Global Supply Chain to implement and maintain Supplier Scorecards.
  • Up to 25% travel, including International.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • B.S. in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Preferred).

Professional experience:

  • Experience in Auditing (CQA preferred).
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in Supplier Quality Assurance in a manufacturing setting.
  • Must have solid understand of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 management systems. Certification as Internal Auditor or Lead Assessor preferred.
  • Experience in Advanced Quality Planning including familiarity with the AIAG Advanced Quality Planning and Control Plan, FMEAs, PPAPs, MSA and Statistical Process Control (SPC) standards.
  • ASQ Certifications Preferred – CQM, CQA, CSQP.
  • Expert in Lean and Six Sigma tool usage with hands-on experience.  SSBB/GB certification – a plus.
  • Experience in SAP – a plus.
