Job Summary:

As a member of the Hitachi xEV Motor Design Engineering, the primary responsibility of this position will be to design, plan, test, and coordinate multiple processes of product development used in automotive xEV motor. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Participate with Hitachi US & Japan Design Engineering organizations in the original design / existing design improvements / performance validation / production launch, activities of xEV traction motors for various automotive powertrain products applications.
  • Create and / or oversee creation of component and assembly 3-D CAD models, along with related 2-D manufacturing/customer drawings. 
  • Create and/or oversee other technical specifications as needed for product design.
  • Participate as a member of a motor program global & local US cross functional teams providing needed product design technical support functions. 
  • Facilitate accurate & timely motor program technical communication between OEM customers to the US / Japan design teams and related Hitachi manufacturing sites.
  • Provide as needed on-site support to the internal motor manufacturing sites for various engineering duties during sample and mass production timing.
  • Support various types of product pricing, quoting, and cost investigation activities.
  • Prepare various types of technical data / information documents using industry standard PC based software programs (i.e.: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Solid works, ANSYS, etc.)
  • Technical expert for xEV EM design for our xEV motor design team.
  • Research novel solutions to develop concepts for high power density, high torque density, high efficiency, and low-cost motors.
  • Research and develop state-of-the-art engineering design solutions and manufacturing technologies for electric motors used in automotive traction system.
  • Support product validation testing, prototype build and test, and other engineering deliverables in the development phase of product life cycle.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Have practical work experience to select a motor design and perform and CAE program simulation as part of an EM design aspect. 
  • Experience or practical work experience with other facets of motor design (structural, thermal, etc) is a plus.
  • Experience with following software (Preferred)
    • CAD software – i.e. CATIA V5, UG, Solidworks preferred
    • CAE/FEA software – i.e. ANSYS Maxwell, ANSYS Mechanical, JMAG, MotorCAD
    • Math software – Matlab/Simulink
  • Ability to use various PC programs (including Microsoft Office) to create / modify / present various types of data & information.
  • Demonstrate fluent English communication, strong initiative / motivation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Support travel as needed to HIAMS Japan or other HIAMS (AM) sites.

Education: Possess at min. Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in motor design    

Experience: Have minimum of 4 years practical experience to original EM design of xEV traction motors.

The ideal candidate is preferred to:

  • Possess a PhD in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in motor design.
  • Have min. of 6 yrs. of practical experience and demonstrated accomplishments in the original EM design of xEV traction motors used in automotive applications.
  • Possess experience with Solidworks 3-D CAD creation and 2-D drawing creation.
  • Possess experience interfacing with suppliers and customers to explain technical documents / drawings / information.
  • Demonstrate success at leading an organized team.
  • Have experience in motor calculations including JMAG, ANSYS Maxwell, Motor CAD or similar software.
  • Fluent in both the English and Japanese languages.

Working conditions:

Physical Demands: Required to sit or stand for long periods of time. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Carrying equipment up and down stairs.  Occasional overtime will be required.

Travel: Some domestic and International travel may be required up to 20%. Must have a valid driver’s license.
