Your new role

We are seeking an experienced Principal Signalling Control System Engineer to work within the UK engineering team to work on the delivery of the control system projects throughout the full project life cycle including tenders. You will work in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams within Hitachi and suppliers.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Responsible for the technical delivery of the Control Systems discipline, in compliance with all relevant / applicable standards: Network Rail, Railway Group Standards, BS, EN, TSI, etc
  • Fulfil the role of CRE when required and act as the main point of contact to the client and suppliers to support delivery of control system projects
  • Work Package leader responsible for delivery of control systems engineering work-packages across a number of projects.
  • Working alongside the global engineering and development teams to lead and allocate engineers to work packages and ensure that all necessary engineering documentation and design is delivered on time, quality and within allocated budget
  • Provide technical support and assistance to the Control Systems Engineers within the global team on all aspects of control systems design within UK projects.
  • Lead development of technical solutions for all UK control system projects and tenders with support from product and system experts from a global team
  • Monitor the progress of works and ensure that the design, development, installation and testing requirements are met in a satisfactory manner
  • Ensure compliance with the technical and safety standards
  • Lead and assess the quality and technical accuracy of tenders in order to develop a robust and competitive proposal
  • Provide expertise in introduction of technology on UK infrastructure and support the Product Acceptance Process
  • Provide support to the planning team and continuously monitor the programme to meet delivery timescales
  • Allocate and monitor resource requirements on the project.
  • Monitor and control budgets for allocated work packages
  • Provide guidance and support to the test and commissioning function
  • Mentorship and support the development of the engineering team.

About you


  • Knowledge and experience in the design and delivery of Railway Signalling Control Systems.
  • Knowledge of various subsystems such as: Automatic Route Setting, Traffic Management System, Train Describer, Emergency Alarms preferred
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Good understanding of task, time and people management skills.
  • Good customer and commercial awareness.


  • HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or hold equivalent experience.
  • Membership of IRSE or other relevant Engineering Institution.
  • Chartered Engineer (desirable) or working towards
