HITACHI RAIL is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Principal Program Manager, OS&M who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Washington, DC.

The OS&M Principle Project Manager is a leadership role with responsibility for implementing Hitachi's strategy to deliver a safe and world class customer experience to Transit Systems. The O&M Principle Project Manager will oversee and coordinate project(s) within the operations, service and maintenance BU. This position reports to the Head of OS&M North America and is responsible for managing projects at various stages, creating the strategy, program and tactics to create interest and demand for products and services; including market development, customer management, market research, and aiding in the selling and sales growth of our products and offerings.
Accountabilities:
  • Manage multiple, simultaneous efforts including projects of various topics and complexity;
  • Develop, manage and maintain project schedules and budgets;
  • Lead development of project deliverables and provide quality control;
  • Work cohesively with all OS&M and Regional groups to ensure a seamless and positive client experience
  • Initiate and maintain a network and relationships in N. American market Interfacing with private and public OS&M leadership/management and service / engineering personnel;
  • Work directly with client project manager and maintain a good relationship;
  • Manage financial progress through timely submittal of invoices and progress reports and initiation of change orders for out of scope services;
  • Prepare technical reports and analyses;
  • Prepare and maintain project staffing resource plans;
  • Manage a multidisciplinary team;
  • Take an active role in business development and identifies planning prospects;
  • Represent Hitachi Rail at regional conferences, seminars and industry events;
  • Manage and prepare technical and cost proposals;
  • Provide quotations, negotiate contracts and process orders;
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations;
  • Coordinate on teaming decisions with the Head of OS&M and other Global and Regional Business Units;
  • Assist in the development of business and marketing plans in transit and emerging markets;
  • Take an active role in the development and mentoring of the OS&M group staff;
  • Work with the regional leadership to assign and manage workload;
  • Work to promote and demonstrate Hitachi's Core Values and to achieve our Company's strategic vision;
  • Inspire and motivate the OS&M Project Team to achieve service excellence;
  • Work with line management and the Human Resources team to identify, recruit, mobilize, train, develop, motivate, and manage talented people;
  • Ensure that the OS&M Project Team receive meaningful inductions, performance reviews, and development plans that support the individuals and the organization in good succession planning;
  • Reward the Project team and recognize people for delivering service excellence;
  • Full responsibility to establish, monitor, control and distribute Millions of dollars in the regions / projects approved budget;
  • Adhere to high-standards of governance and probity, and advocate a strong culture across the Department for the same;
  • Lead Departmental contributions towards strategy for Proposal / Contract delivery;
  • Ensure effective cost management in OS&M that achieves department cost objectives.

Required Skills & Knowledge
  • A degree or work equivalent experience in an applicable field;
  • 10+ years of progressive technical experience in transit planning/engineering and implementation of rail transit improvements;
  • Minimum of 5 years as a Project Manager;
  • Technical expertise in multiple rail design and operations disciplines (track, power, signals, grade crossings, stations structures and transit facilities);
  • Proven ability to manage a multidisciplinary team;
  • Oversee implementation and adherence to the organizational policies and plans, and actively contribute to the Senior Management Group (direct reports to the Head of NAM O&M );
  • Work collaboratively with the Head of NAM O&M to monitor and control activities leading to the successful bid and launch projects into revenue service on time and within budget;
  • Ensure that the all departments and projects are optimally structured, managed, integrated, and resourced to carry out the services efficiently and meet the performance objectives;
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships between team members to ensure aligned interests, collaborative working, and the efficient, sustainable execution of the contract;
  • Excellent technical written and verbal communication skills and analytical skills;
  • Excellent public speaking skills and business development skills;
  • Excellent project management skills;
  • Strong capability in use of computer applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
  • Capability in the use of project management applications such as MS Project or Primavera.
