TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT & CONTROL CONFIGURATION ENGINEER

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Traffic Management & Control Configuration Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Pittsburgh, PA.

Accountabilities:
  • Determine the test objectives and test strategies for medium to high complexity projects.
  • Assist with the classification, management and resolution of all software defects.
  • Participate in program, design and document reviews (including requirements reviews).
  • Create test protocols/procedures/cases for each release. Assist in the creation of test plans. Assure all test documentation is complete prior to the start of the test cycle.
  • Write Test Procedures based upon the department standards and project needs. Ensure adherence to established Quality Assurance processes and standards for the formal delivery of work artifacts.
  • Execute tests according to defined test plans, procedures and cases.
  • Monitor test progress and provide frequent progress reports to project team during test cycle.
  • Plan test activities within the project schedule and estimate the hours required to conduct all Test and Quality Assurance activities.
  • Be the voice of the customer assuring that we do what is necessary to deliver a quality product.
  • Design and develop automated tests.
  • At the end of a test cycle, publish metrics of test results in a timely manner.
  • Participate in the coordination of scheduled tasks with team members.
  • Independently completes complex work as assigned.
  • As needed, provide on-call support for a mission-critical system on weekends or after hours.
Required skills/experience:
  • 2-5 years of experience in software development or an associated discipline.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Quality Assurance practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with basic networking concepts.
  • Fundamental knowledge of Linux or UNIX operating systems.
  • Microsoft OS, Office, EXCEL and WORD education/experience.
  • Proven ability to own and lead and the testing effort for small and medium size projects.
  • Experience using requirement management systems, configuration management tools and processes.
  • Excellent organization and presentation skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills to provide optimal solutions.
  • Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner while producing quality work.
  • Lifelong learner that shares, puts into practice, and teaches what you learn.
Desired skills/experience:
  • Knowledge and use of quality management methods and tools.
  • Working experience with scripting languages like Python, Perl, BASH.
  • Previous work experience and/or knowledge of rail related applications.
  • SQL/Relational Database Knowledge.
  • Knowledge/understanding of Enterprise Messaging Systems (e.g. IBM MQ/ActiveMQ).
  • Knowledge/Understanding of Microservices, Restful Web Services, REST APIs, and technologies such as Spring, Spring Boot.
  • Experience in version control (Git, RTC, SVN).
  • Working experience using/developing automated tests.
  • Applying and Designing a Test Automation Strategy Document.
  • Configure Test Environment (for example Selenium)
