The continuously improved accuracy of machine learning techniques and the development of increasingly efficient dedicated hardware architectures makes machine learning more and more attractive in the scope of high-fidelity physical simulations. Potential uses cases can for example be found in:
Democratization of simulation through AI-assisted pre-/post-processing,
Model accuracy improvement by data-driven sub-models,
Super-fast simulations, e.g. by means of physics informed neural networks.
You will join an innovative team of experts from the fields of modelling/simulation and machine learning. As a member of the Automotive and Industry Laboratory, belonging to the European R&D centre of Hitachi, you will be given numerous opportunities to learn lots of new things about research and development in the automotive and manufacturing sector for instance.
To strengthen our innovative Automotive & Industry Laboratory as a part of the European R&D centre from the fields of modelling/simulation and machine learning, working either remotely or in our office in Schwaig for a duration of 6 months we are looking for a
Working student/master thesis – Machine learning in physical simulations
(Werkstudent/Masterarbeit – Maschinelles Lernen in numerischen Simulationen)
Generate a detailed understanding of the subject matter and available applications
Support to identify use cases for introducing machine learning in our existing simulation workflows
Develop a machine learning model for a specific use case, including training, testing and, validation
Presentation and optionally publication of the results
Ongoing study in computational engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or similar
Fundamental understanding of physical simulations techniques, ideally also machine learning
Experience with at least one programming language, preferably Python and C++
Highly motivated and fast learner
Fluent in English (written and spoken), German is a plus
Enjoyment of work in an innovative R&D environment
The given topic can also be carried out within the scope of a master thesis.
