Hitachi is looking for a highly experienced Solution Quality Assurance Lead to join their team of Software and Data Engineers.  The team is focused on building and delivering a portfolio of solutions that provide large-scale smart charging of electric vehicles.

Role Overview

You should be an individual with a passion for delivering solutions that encompass full end-to-end processes from IoT enabled assets deployed in our customer sites through to our own in-house built complex digital intelligence systems.

Taking ownership of quality assurance across our portfolio, for each solution you will be responsible for defining, documenting and executing our QA plan.  The role includes both hands on creation of QA artifacts, execution of tests and acceptance control along with the management and coordination of testing specialists in their specific fields (i.e. manual and automation software testers, electrical installation engineers, etc).  Therefore, we after a dynamic and versatile QA professional who is able to function in both a hands-on and/or on governance on the projects and products across our portfolio as it evolves and expands in line with our ambitious growth plans.

Finally, the role sits within a team that are passionate about the environment and committed to building the best high-quality solutions to support the decarbonisation of our society.  A passion for the environment and new alternative energy technologies is a distinct advantage as is any direct experience working with solutions encompassing electric vehicles and renewable energy.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

  • As a lead role, you will report into the Head of Solution Development and be expected to be setting standards and best practices, both when working on your assigned projects but also across our portfolio. 
  • Mentoring junior QAs and supervising external contractors working on your or other projects. 
  • Possibility of line management responsibilities in the future.
  • Own and document our Quality Assurance practises and processes across our portfolio of products and projects.
  • Work in partnership with our customers, partners, business and engineering teams to ensure the highest standards and levels of quality in our deliveries.
  • Function as part of the software and data engineering teams.
  • Work directly with contractors and electrical engineers responsible for installing electric vehicle charging stations, and 3rd party software providers, to ensure our quality standards are maintained and accepted as part of their delivery to us.

Skills & Experience

  • Demonstratable experience and deep knowledge of the best practises for quality assurance within a fast-moving team and technology landscape.
  • Able to clearly articulate and deliver the processes, artefacts and methods required to achieve the best levels of quality assurance of digital solutions that include connected physical devices.
  • Deep understanding of software development and testing. 
  • Be willing and able to understand our solutions at a good technical level and assist in triaging and deep diving into identified user problems and unexpected system behaviour.
  • Software / technical background and an active practitioner of Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban/etc).
  • Experience working in Behavioural and Test Driven Development along with supportive tools and processes such as living documentation, specification by example and cucumber (or similar) for business developer collaboration and user based test automation.
  • Clear and concise documentation skills for communicating complex concepts to various levels of stakeholders (experienced in practical used of diagramming and documentation approaches such as UML, BPML, C4 etc).
  • Test automation frameworks, writing and executing user acceptance tests.
  • Project and release management experience.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication ability.
  • Formal QA certification and exposure to recognised internal standards is highly desirable.
