The Senior Product Manager - Software Defined File is responsible for managing, defining and coordinating the delivery of complete solution/product offering programs across relevant Hitachi Vantara functional groups for both File-based, SDS platforms. The Senior Product Manager is the vital link between key cross functional stakeholder groups that include Alliances, Sales, Marketing, Geographic and Regional V-teams, multiple Hitachi, Ltd. divisions, Product Management, and other teams. The Senior Product Manager is responsible for assuring all necessary components for program rollouts are complete from a GTM perspective. In addition, the Senior Product Manager provides thought leadership on the best ways to develop, test, validate and route Block and File SDS offerings to-market that add value, showcase Hitachi differentiators, and drive consumption of Hitachi hardware and software infrastructure offerings in targeted customer and market segments.

The Senior Product Manager is also responsible for the successful management of Hitachi Vantara's product strategy, vision, portfolio and roadmaps related to File SDS offerings and owns the management of each offering throughout its entire life cycle - from development of the initial requirements and prioritizations through GTM execution and end-of-life product decisions. This entails owning and contributing to designs, managing the requirement documents, guarding the architectural integrity and managing critical trade-offs of each offering. As the custodian of the solution/product requirement documents, the SPM leads a cross-functional team to achieve agreement about the concept, design, delivery and support of the offering, and justifies the agreed approach to management. At all stages of the process, from conception through final shipment the SPM is responsible for the delivery of the full suite of product offerings needed to effectively enter strategic SDS markets, fuel growth and capture market share.

What You Will Be Doing

The Senior Product Manager is required to actively engage and solicit information, feedback and requirements from customers, Hitachi Vantara stakeholders, Partners and Strategic Alliances to validate the value and alignment of SDS-based solutions/products for inclusion in the relevant business, development and GTM execution plans.
  • Develop and maintain the vision and strategy for the overall File SDS portfolio and each product offering
  • Strategic and business planning execution to successfully navigate the Hitachi Vantara governance and gating processes
  • Requirements gathering and prioritization via formal market sensing function, customer/partner engagement, market trends, competitive analysis and other trusted sources
  • Delivery and maintenance of formal Product Requirement Documents that translate customer/market/business needs into clearly defined product feature/capability requests for Engineering
  • Close collaboration with Engineering to obtain agreement/alignment on formal release items, establish schedules, manage execution, mitigate risk and deliver on-time
  • Development, delivery, communication and maintenance of formal Roadmap for File SDS portfolio offerings
  • GTM execution for each File SDS-based portfolio offering
  • Directly support Sales/Pre-Sales opportunities and initiatives with customers/partners
  • Lead/support regular updates, communications and enablement activities for direct Sales and Partners
  • Support the promotion of SDS portfolio offerings with Marketing, and independently, via formal channels and mediums
  • Reporting, analysis and forecasting of key business and financial metrics for each SDS portfolio offering
  • Product life-cycle management of each offering comprising the Block and File SDS portfolio
  • Communicate with customers and partners to understand, document and align the business and technical objectives of key programs
  • Communicate with key solution/product stakeholders to understand the needs they have for product rollouts to the field and provide recommendations and requirements to product teams for enablement tool solutions
  • Assist in the development and oversight of supporting collateral development and other enablement initiatives to assist the direct, partner and GSI ecosystems
  • Document and communicate the key elements of the SDS portfolio programs to enable Hitachi Vantara and partner field and sales organizations
  • Deliver presentations and educational events supporting the SDS portfolio - answering questions and instilling confidence across the Hitachi Vantara and Partner value-chains
  • Provide subject matter expertise with the ability to understand the latest architectures, technologies, external forces and market trends, as well as competitive offerings to proactively build, sustain and manage a differentiated enablement tools roadmap
  • Build and own the File portfolio strategy and aligned roadmaps with prioritizations and corresponding business justifications that will drive formal GTM initiatives
  • Manage and own the entire product life cycle from strategic planning to EOL of a File SDS offering, with strong familiarity and execution capabilities across the following activities:
    • Export Compliance and Legal
    • Service Portfolio and Product Support Alignment
    • Marketing and Channel Collaboration
    • Logistics and Operations for packaged, bundled or SKU'd solutions
    • Sales and Professional Services
    • Naming and Licensing
    • ISV/IHV
    • Direct and Partner Training/Education
    • Technical Operations and Interoperability Testing
    • Reporting
    • Configuration/Pricing Logic and Validation
  • Work with internal constituents and external parties to decompose business opportunities into tangible solutions, outline value and ROI, and identify risks, constraints and remediations
  • Deliver Solutions/Product Requirement Documents that translate business requirements into development blueprints for the engineering and development teams
  • Work with and influence key value-chain stakeholders to prepare solutions and their related programs for, while driving and owning the related launch activities
  • Develop, monitor, and report on key metrics to measure the File SDS portfolio and program success
  • Use and advocate the use of solution development and management frameworks, methodologies, and procedures to support formal programs where possible

What You Bring To The Team
  • The ideal candidate has 10+ years in the IT segment, with at least 5 years of primary/senior product management experience
  • Proven success in managing solutions or a product-based portfolio, including Partner-based offerings - solution development and/or delivery experience is strongly desired
  • Must have a strong understanding of the technology focus areas that comprise the File SDS, Multi-Cloud and Container-based landscapes
  • Must have solid product management lifecycle skills and proven track record of managing formal product releases to market
  • Must have experience in File storage services, SW-defined architectures, and Compute-based solutions - ideally experience with Hybrid/Multi-Cloud and Container ecosystem orchestration/automation frameworks
  • Business Planning and Financial Analysis capabilities, with ability to develop related business plans to justify an offering and/or strategic direction
  • Proven ability in capturing, documenting and prioritizing requirements (business, technical, financial and product) from customers, sales, partners and product teams
  • Excellent presentation & and communication (speaking/writing) skills: Ability to translate and clearly formulate technical and market issues into strategic and execution plans
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to lead and influence teams
  • Good project management skills with ability to manage critical path items
  • A four-year university degree or equivalent is highly desired.
  • Strong analytic and critical thinking skills
  • Expertise and proven track record of successfully partnering with new/existing 3rd parties to incorporate, integrate and package product/technology offerings to meet the SDS market needs and achieve business goals/objectives
  • Travel is required, both domestic and international. Amount will vary based on current events and priorities
  • Home office-based position. North America-based required. US-based strongly preferred, but not required.
