Your new role

We are currently recruiting for Quality Technicians at our state of the art manufacturing facility in Newton Aycliffe. This role is responsible to undertake the audit and inspection of train car bodies, in-line with defined standards, whilst ensuring audit and inspection findings are fully documented. These roles are being recruited on a fixed term contract basis.

You will be responsible for the following:

General Train Inspection

  • Performing accurate day to day dimensional measuring and visual inspection of product to ensure Quality Standards are maintained in line with published drawings, quality control plans & inspection standards.
  • Leading the in-process inspection regime for train manufacture throughout the production process, including final inspection of completed train cars at handover to Test & prior to delivery of the full completed train to the customer following completion of Factory Acceptance Testing.
  • Support the Production Quality Assurance Engineer(s) in developing Factory Inspection Procedures & Standards using knowledge transferred from the HRI (Italy) Plant, Engineering Drawings, Specifications & Manufacturing Standard Operating Procedures & Control Plans.
  • Specifying appropriate tools /equipment, devising safe systems of work & establishing effective methods for collecting & recording Inspection Results.
  • Supporting the calibration and maintenance of a range of measuring and test equipment.

Carbody/ Weld Inspection

  • Carryout visual weld inspections in accordance with the requirements of BS EN ISO 17367, BS EN ISO 15085 and BS EN ISO 10042
  • Carry out dimensional surveys on joint preparation prior to and post welding activities
  • Creation of inspection documentation & non-conformance documentation.
  • Carry out DPI inspections of welds when required in accordance with BS EN ISO 23277
  • Carry out UT inspection of welds when required in accordance with BS EN ISO 17640
  • Carry out distortion control verification inspection utilizing laser measurement techniques

Paint Inspection

  • Visually inspect and test quality paint finish to standards and detailed customer quality requirements
  • Verify Sample Swatches in line with paint pass off procedures
  • Monitor Paint Batch Control and recording, including Traceability
  • Check Vehicle surface preparation, degreasing, shot blasting, filler, primer sanding and topcoat application, & verify that all surfaces are in    suitable conditions for painting (in accordance with Job Description ISO8501)

Training

  • Training the wider Quality Team Member Group in application & upkeep of developed Inspection / Test Procedures and working methods.
  • Ensure all non-conformances are identified, controlled and recorded in the business system, provide evidence to support nonconformity and effective close out
  • Lead the investigation and resolution of identified non-conformances, including support to development & verification of countermeasure(s) & their confirmation at source.

About you

Essential

  • A good working knowledge of a range of Quality Assurance & Problem Solving Tools & Techniques including Measurement System Analysis, Value Stream Mapping, First Article Inspection, Capability Study, Cause & Effect Analysis, 5-Why, 8-D, etc., coupled with a demonstrable track record of application in practice on a regular / day to day basis
  • A clear understanding of core AQP Documentation & it’s application including Process Maps, PFMEA & Quality Control Plans, including the ability to support the Quality Assurance Engineering Group in the preparation & development of such documentation to audit of process using the same
  • Extensive experience in the use of a range of hand held Precision Measuring Equipment, including Vernier Calipers, micrometres, feeler gauges, slip gauges, force meters, etc.
  • A good working knowledge of ISO 9000 principles, including practical internal auditing experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, standard operating instructions and written company procedures.
  • An ability to recognise and achieve cost saving opportunities through proactive defect reduction projects
  • Proven experience in the development of Quality Inspection Standards, Standard Operating Instructions & In-Process Check Documentation
  • Good problem solving skills and experience of leading in root cause investigations
  • Excellent report writing skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the business
     

Desirable

  • Experience of working with electrical systems, including fault finding advantageous.
  • Practical Experience in the use of SAP Quality Module features
  • Be able to demonstrate experience in the use of Mobile CMM Equipment, e.g. Faro Arm / Laser Scanner, API Omnitrac2, etc.
  • Ability to demonstrate practical experience in the use of Paint Film Measurement Equipment
  • Welding - Ability to identify weld defects in accordance with relevant acceptance criteria (BS EN ISO 10042).

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to NVQ Level 3 in a relevant engineering discipline as a minimum
