Role Overview

The Internal Audit Manager will be responsible for managing a small team of auditors to support the delivery of Internal Audit services to multiple Hitachi group companies. The role is based in the UK and reports to the HEU Head of Internal Audit.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Internal Audit service design

  • To support the HEU Head of Internal Audit to design, develop and implement audit strategies and plans to meet the long-term governance, compliance and business objectives of HEU and other Hitachi group companies.

Internal Audit service delivery

  • To deliver risk-based audits for the Hitachi group of companies (including financial audits, operational audits, business process reviews and investigations).

  • To take responsibility for strategic and detailed audit planning, including understanding business processes, risk assessment, scoping, preparing work programs and then managing the execution of audit procedures to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls to mitigate risk.

  • To manage the work of junior team members (whilst also taking responsibility for own testing, where necessary) and ensuring that all audit work is performed and documented to a very high standard.

  • To identify and present internal audit findings and recommendations to Hitachi management through a combination of regular meetings and formal audit reporting.

  • To identify opportunities to share best practice across the Hitachi group of companies.

Internal Audit technical expertise

  • To maintain proficient technical knowledge of all Internal Audit policies and procedures and to incorporate best practice into the service. 

  • To identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities within the Internal Audit function.

Stakeholder management

  • To build effective relationships with senior stakeholders across the Hitachi group of companies to ensure Internal Audit services are promoted and meet local and corporate requirements.

  • To act as an ambassador for the wider Finance & Accounting group.

New business development

  • To work closely with senior stakeholders across Hitachi group companies to identify opportunities for increasing the scope of services provided by Internal Audit.

  • To prepare and present engagement proposals to Hitachi group companies for additional service opportunities identified (including the scope of services to be provided, the audit approach, deliverables and budget).

Team Management

  • To provide day-to day management, coaching and mentoring to junior team members.

  • To ensure staff development plans are agreed to maximise the contribution and development of each team member.

Key Skills and Experience


  • Professional qualification (e.g. ACA, CPA, ACCA, IIA)

  • Strong audit delivery skills (planning, execution and reporting)

  • Exposure to financial statement audits, business process controls evaluation (e.g. Sox/J-Sox), advisory projects, risk management, investigations

  • Ability to coach, mentor and develop junior staff (technically)

  • Proven experience in building strong relationships at senior management level

  • Understanding of cultural differences

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Excellent report writing ability

  • Highly developed analytical and probing skills

  • Impeccable level of integrity

  • Accountable, positive attitude, highly motivated team player, ability to work independently

  • Flexible and willing to travel

  • Fluency in English

  • Track record of business development


  • Experience of working in a Japanese business setting

  • Second European language

  • SAP system experience
