The position will be part of the full-cycle of the project. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.”

Accountabilities

As the Principle Quality Assurance Engineer, the candidate will be responsible for:

  • Establishing a Design Quality Management program based upon the contractual requirements and in accordance with ISO 9001;
  • Interfacing with the program level team as well as subcontractors and suppliers to ensure the proper execution of the project in accordance with applicable planning documents and contractual requirements;
  • Quality interface with primary subcontractors and responsible for unified approach to quality between all subcontractors and the program level organization including supporting the integration of the systems from a quality assurance perspective;
  • Interfacing with and completely familiar with all ongoing quality functions being performed by all project parties and its Subcontractors and suppliers;
  • Creation of all program quality planning documents;
  • Evaluating problems and verifying resolutions, including ordering rework or replacement for any non-conforming Work;
  • Ensure the identification of any supplier and vendor issues/ problems and the sharing of these issues/ problems with all relevant Company units
  • Ensure the implementation of all quality assurance activities required to solve any supplier/ vendor issues/ problems;
  • Ensure the preparation of a yearly internal and external quality audit program and implement the activities in accordance with the program schedule and defined methodology;
  • Witnessing inspections of various systems, subsystems or products, including First Article Inspections (e.g., supporting Design Team);
  • Supporting any receiving inspection activities as required;
  • Primary quality interface with the customer counterpart;
  • Supporting the on-site Program team regarding all Quality Assurance activities;
  • Ensure the definition, planning and implementation of all Company activities required for the achievement of the quality certifications (e.g. ISO 9001).


Required Skills/ Knowledge

  • 10-15 Years Business Experience as QA Manager in a Project environment overseeing the delivery of passenger rail transit systems;
  • Greater than 10 years of experience as design team lead of passenger rail transit systems;
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario Professional Engineer with at least 5 years of experience overseeing the design of transit;
  • Registration as a as a quality professional from a certifying body, demonstrating, at minimum, the successful completion of an ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor Training Course;
  • Manage Quality Assurance for a Project greater than $250M;
  • Experience in CBTC systems of a level necessary to coordinate any quality or inspection issues;
  • Construction/Installation experience of a level necessary to coordinate any quality issues or inspections;
  • Experience leading a multi-disciplinary design team on multiple project examples;
  • Experience auditing systems, processes, and products (hardware and software) both internally and externally;
  • Experience in reading technical documents, drawings and / or schematics;
  • Experience in Software Quality Assurance, Hardware Quality Assurance, and Configuration Management;
  • Experience in Quality Management within the public transit industry;
  • Experience in working with Quality Management Systems;
  • Knowledge and implementation experience of applicable standards (e.g, IEEE, ISO, IRIS, CMMI, CENELEC, IEEE , etc.)
  • Auditing Standards (ISO 19011) and techniques;
  • Full knowledge of Ontario and ISO rail delivery standards and practices with ability to demonstrate using each on past projects;
  • Knowledge of quality methods (such as PDCA);
  • Process Management Knowledge and organization techniques;
  • Knowledge of Risk and Opportunity Management;
  • Knowledge of Project Management;
  • Knowledge of cost estimating techniques and budgeting;
  • Experience in using suite of MS office tools;
  • Must be fluent in English;
  • Good communication skills in relaying technical information via verbal or written communication;
  • Team player;
  • Good problem solving skills.

Desired Skills/ Knowledge

  • Knowledge of safety analyses (e.g., Failure Modes Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Hazard Analysis) a plus;
  • Professional affiliations, certificates, or awards desirable.
  • Local experience considered an asset.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
