General responsibilities:

Under the direction of higher-level engineer or department management, this position supports the design and development processes for an assigned engineering program. This position exercises independent judgment rarely and operates within established guidelines.

Job Duties:

  • Participate with Hitachi US & Japan Design Engineering organizations in the original design / existing design improvements / performance and durability tests / production launch, activities of xEV traction motors for various automotive powertrain products applications.
  • Create and / or modification of component and assembly 3-D CAD models, along with related 2-D manufacturing drawings.
  • Facilitate accurate & timely motor program technical communication among OEM customers, related outside suppliers and internal cross-functional teams.
  • Participate as a member of a motor program global & local US cross functional teams providing needed product design technical support functions. 
  • Provide as needed on-site support to the internal motor manufacturing sites for various engineering duties during sample and mass production timing.
  • Support various types of product pricing, quoting and cost investigation activities.
  • Prepare various types of technical data / information documents through the use of industry standard PC based software programs (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Solid works). 
  • Interface as needed with customers, suppliers, internal and external contacts to achieve project deliverables.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate is required to:

  • Possess at min. a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering studies or a related technical field.
  • Possess good skills with one or more widely used 3-D CAD programs to have generated full function, multi-part assy 3-D models.
  • When public health situation permits, capable to travel occasionally as needed to international and domestic destinations to support motor program objectives. Some extended training or program support time in Japan/China is a possibility.
  • Demonstrate fluent English communication, strong initiative / motivation and problem-solving skills in a turbulent environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to use various PC based programs to create / analyze / modify / present various types of data & information.
  • Have some level of practical knowledge to perform and / or participate with CAE / FEA program simulation.

The ideal candidate is preferred to:

  • Possess a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering studies or related technical field.
  • Have practical experience and / or demonstrated accomplishments in the original design or development of automotive parts.
  • Have experience interfacing with suppliers, customers or cross-functional teams to explain technical documents / drawings / information.
  • Have experience at creation and / or revision of DFMEA.
  • Have experience in FEA calculations e.g. ANSYS or similar software.

Education:      Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering studies or a related technical field. 

Experience:     0 – 3 years of prior related experience preferred.

Working conditions:

Physical Demands: Requited to sit or stand for long periods of time. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Have ability to work 40 – 60 hours per week.

Travel: Domestic and international may be required as needed.

Work Environment:   

Primarily remote work and in a professional business office with exposure to testing areas and periodic exposure to manufacturing environments.
