Summary:

Hitachi is looking for a talented entry to Jr. level chemist who would ideally be responsible for supporting the development of solvent based inkjet inks and related products as requested by HIESA and Japan development teams. The candidate is responsible for supporting the development of their product through to the production scale for domestic and global use. The candidate will be expected to formulate and qualify inks and work in a multifunctional team to ensure the properties and needs of developed products are communicated, logged, and investigate any reports of issues with products as requested.  

The incumbent will report to the R&D Lab Supervisor to support daily lab operations and development activities. Specific job duties include but are not limited to:

Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Responsible for formulating new fluid inkjet products and quality testing in the inkjet printers for various industrial needs and creating associated documentation for product release - generating SDS, labels, and product documentation
  • Oversee formulation scale up of developed products and cooperate to resolve any manufacturing issues
  • Timely reporting of test results and observations in an organized manner to supervisor to determine action items
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean working environment in compliance with OSHA and local safety regulations and actively working with the team to maintain safety
  • Responsible for operation/maintenance/accuracy testing of lab equipment to ensure that they are safe and in good working order – this includes creation of new and update of existing of lab SOPs
  • Operate and learn printer and printhead technology (single type) to develop new inks
  • Communicating with vendors on currently used and new raw materials
  • Testing and qualification of the ink in customer environments according to set specifications from Japan to ensure quality
  • Collaborate with technical and product teams on products and being open to guide/support/mentor technicians, interns, future chemists, etc.
  • Evaluate regulatory changes and work with agencies as needed to evaluate products and answer sales questions regarding chemistry
  • Any additional related duties or responsibilities as needed by the company

Qualifications:

  • BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or related field with a strong understanding of chemical properties and interactions is required
  • Self-starter and self-motivated with the willingness to multitask when necessary
  • Ability and willingness to work with various chemical products and using them to develop robust products
  • Must have a strong mechanical aptitude with a hands-on mentality, ability and willingness to troubleshoot industrial printers required
  • Safety awareness in the laboratory and manufacturing environment
  • Proficient analytical skills and attention to detail and is a self-starter / self-motivated
  • Works well in a small team environment with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn additional programs and software as needed by instrumentation and project
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds safely
  • Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally if required
