Summary

Hitachi America, Ltd. is looking for an experienced Media Relations and Internal & External Communications Specialist to enhance various communication activities to increase Hitachi's presence in North America. With the support of the Senior Manager and Manager, the person will be responsible for developing PR strategies and executing PR activities for the Hitachi Group in North America. In addition to media relations, the person will work closely with the Digital Communications team in the same group to create content to be posted on the web, and to create executive messages for internal and external use. This is a position that will enable you to gain a lot of experience as a communications professional for a global company. As a member of the global communications team, the person will work with communications professionals in Europe, Asia, China and other regions, as well as the headquarters in Japan, to enhance Hitachi's global presence.

North America is the Hitachi Group's largest focus region. Hitachi has grown significantly from its Japanese roots which has expanded its footprint in the US tremendously over the last few decades. The revenue in North America was $10 billion, there were more than 24,700 employees among its 72 group companies, and 19 R&D labs operating in 37 states as of March 31, 2021. Adjusting to the growing demand for clean power, modernized infrastructure and resilient supply chains by digital and innovative technologies will define the next generation of American public policy, private investment, and economic and business growth. Hitachi’s leadership in this all-important area, ability to work with the Congress and the Executive branch, and its already large base of employees will solidify its credibility as an American company committed to innovating in the US and solving America’s most pressing challenges. Strengthening public relations and other communication activities is very important for Hitachi to increase its presence in North America.
 

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Planning and execution of PR activities aimed at increasing Hitachi's presence in North America. Specifically, work with managers and PR agencies to develop plans, approach the media, and increase opportunities for Hitachi to be featured in the media.
  • Collaborate with Hitachi group companies in North America and support their communication activities.
  • Liaison and media contact for the Hitachi Group in North America and localizing global corporate announcements
  • Create and refine executive messages for internal and external uses.
  • Create content and stories for Hitachi’s website and social media account
  • Create presentations and speeches for executives
  • Manage PR agency and budget for PR activities
  • Support content creation for global announcements
  • Work with managers on media relations for natural disasters and other crises

Role Qualifications:

  • B.A. in Communication /Branding /Marketing or related field is required.
  • 3-5 years demonstrated B2B work experience in corporate communications including crisis management support, and brand related matters are required. Experience with Internal communications, as well as an understanding of digital communications are also a bonus.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communications skills are required, as well as ability to present detailed plans in large team meetings.
  • Working knowledge of the full MS Office Suite and Social Media platforms is required.
  • Ability to develop corporate communication strategic plans and objectives along with working with multiple constituencies – both internal (Hitachi Group companies) and external (PR agency)
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects under pressure and meet assigned deadlines as required with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently when required, but also proactively garner involvement from other Hitachi Group companies
  • Ability to support other team members to achieve the group's goals
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally up to 10-20% of the time.
