Sr. Researcher/Researcher, Automated Vehicle - Virtual Validation of Embedded Systems

Summary:

Hitachi America, Ltd. (www.hitachi-america.us) is looking for a PhD/Master’s degree candidate in Electrical/Computer Science/Mechanical or a related engineering field to join our Automotive Products Research Laboratory as a Researcher/ Sr. Researcher to contribute to the area of virtual validation and verification of embedded systems targeting implementation of automated vehicle perception and control algorithms using Model Based Design (MBD) and simulation techniques. The position will require sound knowledge on image processing, SystemC and TLM 2.0, sensors and algorithms used in automated driving systems as well as embedded systems. The position requires the candidate to work as an individual contributor as well as a team member with strong technical and communication skills

Responsibilities:

  • Work with cross-functionally for design, development, and validation of automated vehicle processing units such as AD/ADAS ECU.
  • Develop hardware in the loop (HIL) simulation for testing of embedded systems for AD/ADAS applications
  • Develop models needed for virtual vehicle system identification such as plant, actuators, sensors etc.
  • Collaborate with software developers to identify root cause and solve low-level, basic software and application software issues found in the virtual environment
  • Develop new simulation and test script capabilities to address expanding virtual ECU needs and usages
  • Closely interact with customers and proactively support them as needed
  • Periodic generation of invention disclosures based on research outcome
  • Attend conferences/seminars and survey market/technology trends

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D./Master of Science or higher in Electrical/Computer Science/Mechanical or a related engineering field
  • Knowledge of Automated Driving Systems (ADS) is required
  • Knowledge of SystemC and TLM 2.0 is required
  • Experience with Synopsys Virtualizer and running Synopsys VDK in the Virtualizer
  • Knowledge of Automotive MCUs, standard ECU circuits and ICs are required
  • Strong programming skills in C++, embedded system programing and/or Python is required
  • Experience of Model Based Development process using dSpace, MATLAB/Simulink including adoption of automatic code generator for software development is desired
  • Working knowledge of AutoSAR and QNX OS are preferred
  • Working knowledge of ISO26262 (functional safety), IEEE 802.3 (ethernet protocols), and Vector CAN is a plus
  • Working knowledge of Hardware in Loop Systems (HiLS) is preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of machine learning is preferred
  • Knowledge of image processing and sensor fusion algorithms are preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills
  • Strong time and project management skills
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
