Product Support Engineer

Sullair LLC has an opening for a Product Support Engineer in Michigan City, IN.

Evaluate electrical and mechanical products, components and applications by designing and conducting research to drive incremental improvements in existing products. Support the following: Production and field in troubleshooting design-related issues, improving First Past Yield and production throughput; Aftermarket issues by troubleshooting compressors, component identification, and verification of solution; Procurement by creating accurate component prints, identifying alternative components and suppliers, and answering technical/mechanical questions from vendors; and Product quality by identifying the root cause of component failure, performing machine audits, and updating component prints that are out of date. Participate in new engineering development projects by assisting in the selection of motors, starters requirements and electro-mechanical application requirements. Design and integrate control box assemblies into a machine package based upon dimensional and application requirements, including NEMA ratings. Facilitate cost reduction efforts and incremental improvements in existing products and manufacturing methods and processes. Maintain and update all documentation ensuring completeness and correctness. Focus on improving safety, quality, on-time customer delivery, and efficiency of manufacturing operations while reducing mechanical/manufacturing cost, and collaborate with suppliers in resolving quality issues, improving designs and reducing costs.

Must possess at least a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field and at least 5 years of prior progressive work experience as a Mechanical or Electrical Design Engineer. Must also possess the following: at least 5 years of experience in working with CAD software and using modules like part-modelling, sheet-metal, electrical routing, assemblies and drafting; at least 5 years of experience with simplification of heavy CAD assemblies of the complete product using primitive based modeling to reduce the overall file size to help reduce assembly loading time and improve product design lead time; at least 5 years of experience with creation of electrical schematics and assembly drawings for different sub-systems of the product using LTX and NX; at least 5 years of experience with the creation of harness assemblies and 2D flattened harness drawings for manufacturing the harness for automobiles or off-highway equipment; at least 5 years of experience in using PLM (Product lifecycle management) application to release and revise components using Engineering workflow process; at least 5 years of experience with performing space claim studies to accommodate different components of an electrical sub-system, choose clipping points to secure harness, design support brackets to secure electrical components like fuse blocks, relays and control modules.
