Your new role

Working from our factory based in Newton Aycliffe, Hitachi Rail are looking to recruit a Process Engineer, specialising in paint to join our Manufacturing Engineering Department. Within this role you will be the subject matter expert in all areas of the paint process including selection of paint products and associated equipment, working with paint suppliers and equipment suppliers to improve existing Hitachi paint process to the laying out of work stations.

In addition to the above, core responsibilities will also include:

  • Subject matter expert for the painting process

  • Selection of paint products and associated equipment to give the required quality of paint finish in the most economical manner

  • Working with paint suppliers and equipment suppliers to improve the existing paint process

  • Technical review of design drawings and paint standards, to mobilise new projects

  • Creation, accuracy and maintenance of manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOM’s), routings and Standard Operating Procedures

  • Layout of the work stations

  • Design and acquisition of jigs and fixtures

  • Maintenance of accurate on-system information to support the day-to-day running of the business (this could include SAP, Windchill, SharePoint or other future system as needed)

  • Provide technical support to all production personnel to ensure that technical specifications are achieved with the core competencies, MBOM, SOPs, MICs, tooling and equipment provided.

  • Assist with the content of the Team Member lesson plans to ensure that Team Members are trained to be able to work to the operating procedures.

  • Support Production & Quality departments with problem solving

  • Work analysis, method study and labour utilisation analysis including Kaizen activities and DFM/DFA

  • Evaluation and justification of capital investment projects

  • Support all internal & external audits as required

  • Identification of next generation equipment and methods.

  • Promote best practice and safe working procedures

  • Support ad hoc development projects throughout the business

  • Provide industrial engineering support to other departments

General responsibilities

  • Build strong, knowledge sharing, relationships with colleagues in similar positions in other Hitachi sites.

About you

Essential Requirements

Applicants should be able to demonstrate all of the Essential Requirements listed below:

  • Experience in a Paint Process Engineering role is essential

  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated & results-orientated

  • Be helpful to all including working outside of perceived scope where necessary

  • End-to-end ownership of task mentality with timely completion

  • Excellent communication and social skills

  • Keep Line manager updated and briefed on progress

  • Computer literate (MS Excel / Word / PowerPoint)

  • Strong organisational skills with a keen eye for detail. Keep an up to date, prioritised work list.

  • Commitment to working as part of a team

  • Willingness to partake in business travel to our sister plants in Italy & Japan, sometimes for several weeks during the development phase of new projects.

  • Willingness to learn new skills and adopt company standards

  • An understanding of Health and Safety requirements within a working environment

  • Engineering and manufacturing experience

Qualifications

  • HNC, HND, degree (engineering discipline)
