Hitachi Rail STS USA is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Associate Installation Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment.  The successful candidate is comfortable performing track surveys and reporting back to the design team, in order to ensure proper construction and location of the signaling devices along the track.  The position is based in San Francisco, CA.

Accountabilities:

  • Conduct physical site surveys using basic equipment and tools (such as measuring wheel, cameras and meter tape).
  • Prepare sketches and notes, and perform data collection.
  • Interface with construction contractor and internal engineering team to make sure the design can be realized in the field
  • Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.
  • Be able to understand the signaling and interlocking principle to be able to make conscious changes to the design, based on field finding

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • The ability to work independently while establishing a strong working relationship with other subsystem team members.
  • Able to understand written documents and civil drawings.
  • An aptitude for applying mathematical principles to solve problems.
  • Attention to detail as the output of the survey will be an input for design documents.
  • Care when taking and recording measurements.
  • Listening skills as instructions from others have to be clearly understood.
  • Speaking skills to ensure the communication of information among members is fluid.
  • Ability to plan the own work while respecting team deadline and client requirements to go to the field

Desired Skills/Knowledge:

  • Prefer rail or rail transit domain experience, but not required
  • Prefer experience with Wayside signaling equipment, particularly axle counters, but not required

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher certification. Major in surveying beneficial but not essential.

Languages:

  • English-Proficient
