Summary of the position:

This position is for an outgoing and assertive individual who can juggle multiple projects and cope with the associated pressures to drive innovation and directly support Sullair’s manufacturing operations. The Manufacturing Engineer will integrate (SQDCM) EH&S, Quality, Delivery, Product Cost and Inventory goals into their daily tasks and projects.  This individual must be a change advocate and successfully motivate and lead cross-functional teams to the ultimate sustainable outcome utilizing lean manufacturing concepts. 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Study and improve or create manufacturing processes and procedures aimed at improving safety, quality, and productivity while lowering manufacturing costs.
  • Create and improve machine programs for turning and milling operations in lathes, mill-turns, and horizontal mills.
  • Support both the tactical and strategic goals and objectives through the implementation of lean principles of manufacturing, i.e., 6S, 5Why, Kaizen, VSM, etc.
  • Creation of work instructions, documentation, and optimized operational routings for given work centers.
  • Process Plans, tool design/selection/procurement, gage planning, and troubleshooting of processes.
  • Cost estimates, time standards, technical support of shop floor.
  • Specification, justification, and implementation of capital equipment to advance manufacturing technology throughout Operations.
  • Develop floor layouts for existing and future project/processes in AutoCAD.
  • Participate in and lead root cause analyses of quality, manufacturing, and process issues.
  • Assist in make versus buy analyses on products and processes.
  • Perform capacity and factory layout analyses to meet business demand.
  • Participate in and conduct Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) On the Fly as required to detect and correct potential safety issues on the shop floor.
  • Review engineering changes for manufacturability and provide disposition for new products and for current products and processes.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering/Engineering Technology.

Professional experience:

  • 5+ years plus experience in Manufacturing or related field.
  • Experience with CNC machining equipment and other automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Must have experience programming multi-axis CNC equipment with 5+ programmable axes.
  • Should have experience with machine controls, programming languages, and software including but not limited to G-code, Fanuc, Siemens, Mazak/Mazatrol, and SMoriAp(CAPS)
  • CAM software and 3D modeling software experience preferred.
  • Experience with precision mechanical assemblies and rotating equipment (compressors, pumps, engines, etc.) preferred.
  • Exposure to engineering change order documentation, qualification for operations, and product lifecycle management.
  • Demonstrate strong abilities in Lean Manufacturing concepts and techniques (Lean tools; Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Kaizen, DMAIC, etc.
  • Project Management experience and PMP certification is a plus.
  • Ability to lead a cross-functional team and control timing/budget for improvement projects.
  • 6 Sigma Green/Black belt certification a plus.
  • Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (PFMEA) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) exposure.
  • Good analytical skills and must be detail oriented.
  • Ability to adapt and implement modern technology quickly.
  • Flexible with hours to support operations.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) required.
  • Strong computer skills required including proficiency in MS Office.
  • Candidate must be self-directed, a self-starter, and be able to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Enthusiastic, cooperative, and positive behavior.
  • Operations supervision/management experience a plus.
