Role Overview

The aim of the role is to manage assigned project teams within defined time tasks and timescales.

This role can be based out of either our Bradford on Avon or Derby office.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the HICSE Head of Projects, the main responsibilities of the role holder include, but shall not be limited to:

  • Identifying, addressing and resolving project issues

  • Promoting the good in all actions, acting in a safe, morally, legally and socially appropriate manner in dealings with stakeholders and members of the organisation

  • Empowering and inspiring others to deliver successful projects without compromising Safety and Integrity principles.

  • Securing the provision of resources needed for projects from internal and/or external providers

  • Managing contracts for the provision of goods and/or services, monitoring compliance and managing variances

  • Preparing and maintaining definitions of the requirements of projects

  • Determining the best means of satisfying requirements within the context of project objectives and constraints

  • Preparing and maintaining schedules of activities and events, taking account of dependencies and resource requirements

  • Developing, implementing and updating resource allocation plans (other than finance) needed for projects, taking account of availabilities and scheduling

  • Developing and agreeing budgets for projects and controlling forecast and actual costs against them

  • Identifying and monitoring project risks (threats and opportunities), planning and implementing responses to them and responding to other issues that affect projects

  • Developing, maintaining and applying quality management processes for project activities and outputs

  • Consolidating and documenting the fundamental components of projects (scope, schedule, resource requirements, budgets, risks, opportunities and issues, and quality requirements)

  • Establishing and maintaining governance arrangements for the delivery of projects, defining clear roles, responsibilities and accountabilities, in accordance with the HICSE Business Management System.

  • Managing stakeholders, taking account of their levels of influence and particular interests

  • Implementing where necessary, change control process in relation to change of scope of the projects

  • Good knowledge of using PC tools especially Microsoft Office Word, Excel with experience in using MS Project being essential.

  • Experience of working within highly regulated industries, ideally rail, although candidates with experience in similar industries such as oil and gas or aerospace will be considered (essential)

  • Understanding of railway traffic operation, particularly signalling control centres and control system design associated with SSI, IECC, MCS, WESTCAD and ARS (desirable)
