HITACHI RAIL is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Principal Field Application Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks, including administrative, tactical, and strategic. The position is based as REMOTE.

Accountabilities:

The Field Application Engineer is responsible and accountable for providing technical expertise and knowledge on an extensive array of HITACHI Rail communications and signaling products and solutions to support both the external customers and internal Product Development, Marketing, and Sales teams.  Enable the Sales team through understanding, training, and defining existing and anticipated products and solutions for customer needs, wants, and problems.  This role will collaborate effectively with other functional areas to support the Sales Team strategy and objectives.

Provides high application-level support of hardware/software/solutions for customers.

Ability to bridge Hitachi Rail’s signaling products and solutions with the customer’s application needs.

  • Work in partnership with the sales manager to build successful customer relationships.  Establish and maintain customer relationships.
  • Provide customer technical support for Hitachi Rail products and their associated applications to assist customers with all necessary resources, including: technical product information, training sessions, field/site surveys, cutover/installation support, and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Support after hour emergency phone support on a rotating basis.
  • Primary technical contact for assigned customers.
  • Supports customer through problem solving and troubleshooting of Hitachi Rail's products and their associated applications.
  • Provide new feature recommendations for existing products and applications to better serve the customer’s needs.
  • Create, manage, maintain and implement customer specific specifications in order to apply products and solutions accordingly.
  • Create and maintain technical training and introduction material documents for product presentations, user guides, demonstrations and other product implementation related content.
  • Provide the necessary technical support for existing and new product launches and promotions.
  • Self-directed and motivated individual to achieve objectives with little direct supervision.

Required Skills/ Knowledge:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years' experience in an engineering/technical role (Rail Signaling industry preferred), or a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments.
  • Commitment and willingness to strive toward achieving goals and business objectives.
  • Professionally represents the company as the forward-facing technical expert resource in a diverse array of customer settings.
  • Acts with a sense of urgency to meet the customer’s needs.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed to meet the company's objectives.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, self-manage priorities and work independently as well as part of a team to meet objectives as needed.
  • Technical aptitude and the ability to learn technical matter.
  • Customer Oriented Mindset (Customer First Perspective)
  • Strong written, verbal, and collaborative communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Desired Skills/ Knowledge:

  • Prior experience working in the railroad industry (preferred)
  • Technical knowledge in railroad/railway wayside signaling, crossings, PTC (Positive Train Control), and communication systems.
  • Programmable Logic Controller programming experience (preferably railway wayside vital logic controllers).

Education: BS degree in an Engineering discipline, (Electrical/Electronic/Computer preferred) or applicable professional experience.

Languages: English Proficiency

Travel:  Ability to travel >40% for business needs.  International travel may be required.
