Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Senior Learning & Development Specialist  who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Pittsburgh, PA.

the Learning and Development (L&D) team is responsible for the implementation of the global corporate learning strategy, analysis, design, development and evaluation of training, and identification for improvements in the development of a highly skilled workforce.

The Senior Learning & Development Specialist will be part of the team and will work partners closely with Business and regional HRs designing, developing and implementing learning solutions as assigned (e-learning courses, PowerPoint shows, printable job aids, etc.). S/he will manage programs and processes within L&D and will manage and facilitate training as required.

S/he will be working in a global multicultural matrix organization ensuring the fulfillment of learning needs at both global and regional level in order to support both business and people competencies growth.

Accountabilities Include But Are Not Limited To

Relationship and partnerships

  • Partner with HR colleagues and Business stakeholders and subject matter experts across Hitachi Rail and external vendors to ensure the development of programs that will increase employee knowledge, ability and engagement in the light of a diverse and inclusive culture.
  • Collaborate at a global level with all HR colleagues to ensure a strong harmonisation among the learning framework and all the relevant HR processes. Ensure the daily relationship with manager and HR colleagues in order to monitoring and analyzing all regional, functional ,individual, statutory and business learning needs

Learning Needs Analysis, & technical training & Special projects

  • Support  LNA Learning Needs Analysis using both structured and informal methods to capture requirements across Hitachi Rail; identifying current and future developmental needs at the company, function and individual level,
  • Support LNA, to define annual learning and development priorities and delivery plans with focus on possible training funding opportunities.
  • Support the technical training activities with special focus on certifications and qualifications activities

Learning Design and development

  • Conceptualizing innovative and flexible methods to address the developmental and capacity building global needs identified, including identification of external training programs and conferences, the design and delivery of in-house training sessions, enrolment in online learning programs, mentoring, self-learning, and other methods as appropriate;
  • Ensuring and facilitating the implementation of the L&D Plan to ensure smooth execution with effective outcomes and appropriate communication;
  • Developing learning opportunities and programs, both self-led and directed, to support employee growth and increase employee engagement both at global and regional level.
  • Building and maintaining mutually beneficial internal and external vendor relationships, manage vendor relationships to ensure adoption of external solutions, as intended.

Reports and Measurement

  • Develops and implements metrics and monitoring plan to demonstrate the impact training has on improving performance.
  • Perform data analysis on user data
  • LMS & Performance Feedback

Facilitation – As Needed

  • Facilitate both instructor-led and virtual classroom/webinar sessions.
  • Facilitate in-class simulations and activities to assess learning retention.

Required Skills & Knowledge

  • Expertise with adult learning theory. Prior experience designing and facilitating technical skills, “soft skills” and professional/leadership development classes.
  • Prior experience integrating multiple learning modalities including webinars, mobile learning and mentoring.
  • Professional digital skills such as:
    • use a wide range of communication tools (e-mail, chat, SMS, instant messaging, blogs, micro-blogs, social networks) for online communication.
    • create and manage content with collaboration tools (e.g. electronic calendars, project management systems, online proofing, online spreadsheets).
    • produce digital content in different formats (e.g. text, tables, images, audio files). using templates
  • Self-motivated, accountable, and confident in ability to consult, design, develop, and deliver training programs.
  • Able to produce complex digital content in different formats (e.g. text, tables)
  • Can effectively manage change and shift gears comfortably; highly effective in ambiguous environments and able to produce maximum results with little direction and guidance.
  • Excellent listening, negotiation and presentation skills and ability to communicate and influence all levels of the organization, including Top managers and first layer executives
  • Team player with ability of planning, organizing, and managing resources (financial resources, human resources,...) to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives;
  • Tireless communicator with relevant stakeholders on various levels in a multi-cultural environment; working comfortably in a divers and remote teams
  • Project Management
  • Excellent analytical and project management skills with attention for details; a  problem-solving and driving for completion personality; multi-tasking on a daily basis, managing priorities
  • Critical thinking and business acumen: ability to search and analyses information objectively and draw reasonable conclusions from a set of information to solve a problem or make a decision

Education Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, economics or human resources science or equivalent
