Department Trainer (Bilingual-English & Spanish)

ROLE :

The Department Trainer provides administrative support to the safety department. The scope of their work is to instruct, train and test, new and existing personnel, in all necessary safety compliance requirements. In addition, their work is to maintain and organize required safety compliance documentation, check sheets, inspection records, employee safety files, and ensure compliance with OSHA requirements and conformance with ISO 45001 Safety Management System.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Energy Control and Power Lockout Program:
    • Control Plant Lockout Lock inventory.
    • Maintain Annual Lockout Audit system for all authorized and affected employees.
    • Label and distributed locks to employee departments.
    • Responsible for ordering and purchasing supplies of locks and decals.
  • Confined Space Program:
    • Maintain Confined Space Inventory log.
    • Annual documented review of the Confined Space log.
    • Review of permits to ensure compliance.
    • Maintaining historical documentation of individual confined spaces.
    • Calibrate monitors and record data.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) program:
    • Assist the Health Department in procuring the appropriate PPE within the stock room to protect employees from known hazards.
    • Assist Health Department in completing PPE evaluations to identify the hazards in the work place, and maintain written documentation of the hazards and recommended PPE.
    • Order and audit PPE signage at the facility.
  • Powered Vehicle Impact Monitoring:
    • Program and assign key fobs to authorized and trained employees.
    • Maintain the authorized employee listing.
    • Monitor impacts and follow-up with department and user.
  • Contractor Program:
    • Participate /create the annual contractor safety training meeting (in-person or online).
    • Conduct or assist with contractor pre-job meetings including documentation.
    • Verify contractor status and aid in approval of necessary requirements.
    • Access to the contractor document database.
  • New Equipment Buyoff/Red-Yellow-Green Approval:
    • Assist with compliance review and approval progress for new or modified equipment.
    • Assist with creation and documentation of the red-yellow-green tag approval system.
    • Work closely with engineering team and department to identify any potential safety hazards and eliminate prior to approval.
  • Incident Investigations and Near Miss Reporting:
    • Review all incoming incidents and provide corrective action recommendations.
    • Assist the departments with documentation of the incident reports.
    • Assist with the bi-annual training requirements for all supervision.
  • Purchase Requisitions:
    • Assist in reviewing every purchase requisition for the plant verifying contractor approval, product verification and PPE authorization in SAP.
    • Enter and process requisitions for the department for necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Risk Reduction:
    • Review all incoming risk reduction efforts from the plant.
    • Process the risk reduction projects, assign value and document the monthly results.
  • Ergonomics Program:
    • Assist in leading ergonomics team meetings.
    • Maintain and provide actions and updates for ergonomic projects.
  • Miscellaneous:
    • Act as the safety representative for the plant for day-to-day activities, OSHA interactions and during audits.
    • Organize and lead safety teams such as:
      • Safety Kaizen
      • Silica and Noise
      • Pedestrian Vehicle Interaction
      • Behavior-based safety
      • Department Hazard Assessment
      • All other safety specific teams
  • Maintain employee safety files and records:
    • Clerical responsibilities to include data entry, filing and sorting.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :

  • Willing to pursue OSHA 10-hour for General Industry or OSHA 30-hour for General Industry.
  • Willing to pursue Associates Degree in Occupational Safety.
  • Basic knowledge of the above mentioned subjects or willing to learn.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS :

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Intermediate computer skills are preferred.
  • Must be detail oriented, have ability to multitask and possess great interpersonal skills.
