Job Description

Your new role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Materials and Technology Engineer to join our team in London.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to build specialist experience within the rail industry, working across materials engineering and special manufacturing processes. You will support a varied range of technical activities, with a particular focus on bonding, painting and corrosion protection.

Working collaboratively with internal and external project teams, you will help manage technical requirements, documentation and activities relating to materials and special processes. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to railway vehicle projects and develop your experience within a complex, international engineering environment.

Some key responsibilities

  • Support the management of materials and special-process requirements using DOORS.
  • Manage technical documentation and activities relating to materials and special processes.
  • Provide support and technical input across bonding, painting and corrosion-protection activities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external sub-project teams to support the development of assigned areas of projects.
  • Coordinate with the resources involved in materials and special-process activities.
  • Help ensure that materials-related requirements and project deliverables are managed effectively.
  • Build strong working relationships across engineering and project teams.
  • Undertake occasional short domestic and international business trips where required.

We are looking for a motivated and analytical engineer who is keen to develop specialist expertise in materials and manufacturing processes.

You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced engineering environment, managing a varied workload and collaborating with stakeholders across different teams.

You will ideally bring:

  • A Master’s degree or technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience working on railway vehicle projects in a materials, special-process or wider engineering role.
  • Knowledge or practical experience of bonding, painting and corrosion-protection processes.
  • An understanding of materials and special-process documentation and requirement management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A collaborative and flexible approach, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A results-focused mindset and willingness to take ownership of assigned activities.
  • Written and spoken English to at least B2 level.
  • Availability for occasional short domestic and overseas travel.

Knowledge of DIN 6701 and European chemical-substance requirements, including REACH and SCIP, would be advantageous. An EAS European Adhesive Specialist qualification would also be beneficial.

If you are looking to develop your engineering career in a specialist area, contribute to technically challenging railway projects and learn from experienced colleagues within a global organisation, this could be a fantastic next step.
