When you work at Hitachi, it’s easy to make a difference: One of the perks of working for a global company is the breadth of opportunities available through business activities, employee volunteering and charitable activities that contribute to local communities throughout the world. Social contribution is a core value at Hitachi – we focus on activities that nurture people and connect them to the future in order to create a better tomorrow for all.
Hitachi uses its knowledge and technology to develop the next generation of workers and leaders. We provide educational programs in science and technology to children; we offer training programs to cultivate young leaders and engineers; and we promote human development with grants and scholarships for university teaching staff and researchers.
We actively work to reduce the burden on the environment with activities such as environmental communication to deepen exchanges with local stakeholders. For example, our environmental education helps communicate Hitachi’s environmental initiatives and increase awareness. We practice forest conservation and green curtains in cooperation with local groups. We participate in cleanups around offices, factories and coastlines – and we turn off signs and office lights at night to help prevent global warming and cut CO2 emissions.
Hitachi employees from all around the world and across many companies are playing a significant role in the “Team Hitachi” Kiva initiative. Kiva is a non-profit organization and microlending platform that unites people to alleviate poverty and expand opportunity to entrepreneurs in need. Team Hitachi is comprised of employees who loan and re-loan their personal funds to help those who do not have access to traditional financing. This initiative aligns with Hitachi’s SDGs goals on Human Rights - access to financial services for those in the developing world to make a better life for themselves as well as eliminating poverty. This is a very special employee initiative in which Hitachi Group employees and Hitachi have participated wholeheartedly.
Hitachi contributes to communities to help them grow and solve their issues. For example, we work closely with local groups to collect and distribute food and clothing where needed, provide classroom programs with IT resources and employee volunteer teachers, and sponsor youth sports tournaments to promote mental and physical health. In addition, we provide disaster relief and support restoration and reconstruction of disaster-affected areas.
