Principal Software Architect - ARM Porting & Orchestration

Job Description

Seeking a Principal Architect to join the Core Compute Team. The team is responsible for the platform orchestration layers and control planes powering Akamai's global cloud fleet. To support the introduction of ARM (NVIDIA Vera) servers, you will lead the architectural design to port, optimize, and scale compute services for new hardware before these platforms enter production.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
Heavy engineering background and experience in cloud platform architecture and control plane design.
Proven experience designing high-scale IaaS control planes, microservices, and distributed cloud orchestrators (e.g., Linode, AWS EC2, OpenStack).
Deep understanding of systems programming on Linux and multi-socket server platforms.
Expert-level skills in writing requirements and architectural documentation
Excellent communication in English

 

Nice to have:

Experience with OpenStack or proprietary cloud control planes at scale
Experience designing control planes for large-scale public/private clouds (Linode, AWS EC2)

Job Responsibilities

Design the migration and refactoring strategy for core orchestrator services (vbin, LSS, LDM, VMAP, RS, Backup) and in-flight features to support ARM64 infrastructure.
Design NUMA memory allocation models, cross-socket optimization strategies, and NUMA topology for high-core-density ARM hardware.
Establish technical blueprints and strategies for Live, Warm, and Cold VM hypervisor migrations on ARM architectures.
Design nested virtualization integration and hypervisor execution models.
Drive joint architectural decisions and embedded design reviews directly with engineering leads across teams.
