Protection & Control Engineer

Job Description

Basic Function: The Protection & Control (P&C) Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of protection and control systems for electrical power projects. This role ensures high-quality engineering deliverables, compliance with standards, and timely execution of projects. The P&C Engineer collaborates with project managers, customers, and cross-functional teams to deliver innovative and reliable solutions.

The Protection & Control Engineer is responsible for developing and design as related to protection & control, for all types of Customers.

Design & Engineering

• Design and Develop protection and control schemes for substations and power systems.
• Prepare engineering documentation including design criteria, schematics, wiring diagrams, and relay settings.
• Review and validate vendor equipment specifications and technical documentation.
• Ensure designs comply with national standards, customer requirements, and best practices.

Project Execution

• Coordinate technical activities throughout the project lifecycle, including design, testing, and commissioning.
• Support project managers with technical input for proposals, cost estimates, and risk assessments.
• Monitor project progress to ensure adherence to scope, schedule, and budget.
• Resolve engineering and design issues with a focus on safety, quality, and compliance.

Testing & Commissioning

• Perform relay testing, SCADA integration, and communication protocol verification (Modbus, DNP3, GOOSE).
• Utilize advanced test equipment (DOBLE, OMICRON) for system validation.
• Prepare detailed test plans and reports for customer approval.

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

• Conduct meetings with customers to discuss design modifications and system optimization.
• Provide technical support during installation and commissioning phases.
• Build strong relationships with clients and offer recommendations for improved system performance.

Collaboration & Leadership

• Work closely with sales, marketing, and engineering teams to provide technical expertise.
• Mentor junior engineers and share best practices within the team.
• Participate in technical training and continuous improvement initiatives.

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure all engineering activities adhere to company health, safety, and environmental policies.
• Promote a culture of safety and integrity across all project phases.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in protection and control engineering for power systems.
• Knowledge of protective relays, SCADA systems, and communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, GOOSE).
• Familiarity with substation automation and high-voltage equipment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Experience with engineering tools and test equipment (DOBLE, OMICRON).
• Professional Engineering license or certification preferred.
