[PS] Project Engineer, Cellular Connectivity & SIM Management

Job Description

The next generation medical device controller relies on cellular connectivity to send data to the cloud and receive updates. With nearly one million active SIMs growing monthly, this role establishes a single owner to centralize SIM fleet management, eliminate cost/usage anomalies, and scale connectivity strategy for next-generation devices.

Requirements

  • ~5 years of experience in cellular/IoT connectivity, SIM fleet management, and hands-on SIM lifecycle operation (e.g., AT&T Control Center).
  • Strong background in Telco enterprise systems, Business Support Systems (BSS), and Business Process Management Systems (BPMS). Understanding cellular standards (LTE/5G/NB-IoT) from the perspective of data usage patterns would be a plus.
  • Strong data analytics skills and capabilities (Excel, Power BI, SQL) to establish baselines, track usage patterns, and analyze billing/cost data.
  • Experience with Cellular Subscription Management Services and enterprise cellular/mobile solutions would be a big plus.
  • ~70% strategy & engineering and 30% operations; ability to lead cross-functional initiatives without direct authority.

Job Responsibilities

  • SIM Fleet Ownership & Operations: Act as the single owner for Insulet’s SIM fleet; manage the day-to-day administration, operational relationship and SIM inventory in the carrier management platform (AT&T Control Center).
  • Usage & Cost Optimization: Build data baselines for usage and spend; analyze billing anomalies, zero-usage SIMs, and high-data devices; partner with Procurement, IT, and software teams to implement cost-reduction strategies and track savings.
  • Process & Program Governance: Consolidate fragmented SIM stewardship tasks; define and standardize SIM lifecycle processes (activation, deactivation, returned-SIM procedure QWI-584, and QMS integration).
  • Connectivity & Platform Strategy: Guide the connectivity roadmap for Omnipod controllers—evaluating eSIM/eUICC architecture, carrier options, roaming, and device data budgets as Insulet expands globally. Own network lifecycle monitoring to spot compatibility issues within both home and roaming networks worldwide.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product Support, Cybersecurity, IT, Android software support team and SRE to optimize data behavior, streamline troubleshooting and RCA, and enforce security controls (APN configurations, access controls etc.). Be able to quantify the cost impact of each fix and track the fixes into software releases.
