Requirements
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Embedded Software Engineer with strong hands-on expertise in low-level embedded programming using Texas Instruments Sitara processors and TMS320F28388D DSPs.
You will join an engineering team developing real-time firmware for power electronic equipment. The system architecture includes a Sitara-based main controller and DSP-based cell controllers, requiring reliable inter-controller communication, synchronization, firmware lifecycle management, and robust fault diagnostics.
The role focuses on developing and integrating embedded software across these platforms, with particular emphasis on TI-RTOS for DSP development. The operating system for the Sitara-based main controller has not yet been finalized and may be based on a suitable RTOS or embedded Linux.
This position is ideal for an engineer who combines strong low-level programming skills with practical hardware debugging experience and an understanding of real-time, safety-critical or high-reliability embedded systems.
Job Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Embedded Firmware and Real-Time Systems
- Develop and maintain real-time embedded firmware in C/C++ for Texas Instruments Sitara processors and TMS320F28388D DSPs.
- Develop DSP firmware using TI-RTOS, including task scheduling, interrupt handling, timing management, and resource coordination.
- Contribute to the software architecture and operating system selection for the Sitara-based main controller, potentially involving embedded Linux.
- Design and implement multi-controller synchronization and communication between the main controller and DSP-based cell controllers.
Bootloader and Firmware Updates
- Design and implement bootloader functionality, including firmware integrity verification and reliable startup behavior.
- Develop firmware update managers for the main and cell controllers, including compatibility checks, failure notification, automatic fallback, and rollback mechanisms.
- Evaluate and implement firmware transfer mechanisms, including EtherCAT-based approaches where applicable.
Parameter Management and Diagnostics
- Design and implement a parameter management framework supporting parameter creation, deletion, naming, data types, derived parameters, default values, and non-volatile storage.
- Implement parameter change logging, update mechanisms, access controls, authorization hierarchies, write restrictions, synchronization, and validation.
- Develop transient fault recording functionality to capture selected variables before, during, and after fault events.
- Implement timestamping, fault-record storage, and data retrieval mechanisms while accounting for communication bandwidth and synchronization constraints.
Hardware Integration, Debugging, and Verification
- Integrate firmware with gate drivers, sensors, protection circuits, communication interfaces, and supervisory control systems.
- Debug and verify embedded software using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD debuggers, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test systems.
- Collaborate closely with hardware, control, systems, and test engineers to investigate and resolve integration issues.
Documentation and Software Quality
- Prepare and maintain software requirements, architecture descriptions, interface specifications, test procedures, and release notes.
- Participate in code reviews, configuration management, software verification, and continuous improvement activities.
Required Qualifications
- Strong professional experience in embedded software development using C and/or C++.
- Hands-on experience with Texas Instruments Sitara processors and/or TMS320F28388D DSPs, with a strong preference for candidates familiar with both platforms.
- Practical experience with low-level programming, processor peripherals, interrupts, memory management, and hardware interfaces.
- Experience developing real-time embedded firmware with an understanding of scheduling, timing constraints, and concurrency.
- Experience with TI-RTOS, particularly for TI DSP-based systems.
- Experience with embedded debugging on physical hardware using JTAG/SWD or equivalent tools.
- Understanding of inter-controller communication and synchronization in distributed embedded architectures.
- Ability to analyze complex technical problems and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Nice to Have
- Experience with embedded Linux on TI Sitara platforms.
- Experience with TI processor development tools, SDKs, compiler toolchains, and debugging environments.
- Knowledge of bootloaders, firmware integrity verification, fault-tolerant startup, and firmware rollback strategies.
- Experience with EtherCAT or other industrial communication protocols.
- Experience with multi-controller architectures and synchronized DSP/CPU operation.
- Experience developing fault recorders, event logging, and high-resolution timestamping mechanisms.
- Background in power electronics, industrial control, energy systems, or other high-reliability embedded applications.
- Familiarity with HIL testing, automated testing, version control, code reviews, and continuous integration.
