Senior Kernel & Qemu Engineer

Job Description

Seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Platform Systems & Virtualization Team responsible for core hypervisor infrastructure, virtual device emulation, and low-level firmware integration. In this role, you will work directly at the intersection of firmware and the operating system, developing QEMU device models, maintaining custom BIOS/firmware integrations ( SeaBIOS), pushing upstream contributions, and optimizing core Linux kernel subsystems.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum 4 years of experience in low-level systems and Linux kernel development
Strong proficiency in C for low-level systems programming
Deep knowledge of Linux kernel internals, specifically memory management (subsystems, page allocation, MMU).
Hands-on development experience with QEMU (device emulation and platform models).
Experience creating, patching, or customizing BIOS/firmware versions for QEMU (SeaBIOS, EDK2/UEFI, Coreboot, or U-Boot). Direct SeaBIOS experience is preferred, but custom BIOS development within QEMU environments is accepted.
Strong understanding of PCI / PCIe specifications, bus configuration, ACPI tables, and device drivers.
Practical experience using eBPF for kernel tracing, profiling, and performance diagnostics.

Nice to have:
Track record of preparing code reviews and submitting upstream patches to open-source projects (e.g., QEMU, SeaBIOS, EDK2, Linux Kernel).
Experience with Rust in systems or kernel context.
Background in GPU drivers or virtualized graphics stacks (vfio, vGPU).
Scripting in Python for test automation and debugging harnesses

Job Responsibilities

Architect, implement, and maintain virtualization components across QEMU, SeaBIOS, and the Linux kernel.
Develop, debug, and optimize kernel memory management and virtual device pipelines.
Implement and configure virtual and pass-through PCI / PCIe device models in QEMU.
Maintain low-level SeaBIOS firmware code, ACPI table generation, interrupt handling, and system bootstrap routines.
Profile platform latencies, hypervisor-to-guest performance, and memory footprints using eBPF.
Deliver robust, upstream-quality patches and root-cause complex platform-level issues.
