Job Description

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Senior Radio and IP Testing and Commissioning Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You will be primarily responsible for testing, commissioning and integration of radio access network and IP telecommunications systems for rail projects. You will ensure testing and commissioning activities are completed in line with approved documentation, designs are constructible, scopes of work are clearly defined, materials are ordered, and internal and external stakeholders are engaged to support successful telecommunications system delivery. The position is based in Brisbane, Australia.

Accountabilities: 

• Test, commission, deploy and optimise RAN systems to ensure high availability, coverage and performance.
• Integrate, configure and commission BTS equipment across GSM-R networks, including above-ground and tunnel environments, and verify associated IP connectivity.
• Conduct drive testing, perform detailed RF analysis, document results, and prepare testing and commissioning reports.
• Troubleshoot RAN, radio and IP network issues and support broader telecommunications integration and commissioning activities.

Working as part of the engineering design and delivery team, you will work directly within the telecommunications engineering team and will be primarily responsible for testing and commissioning radio access network and IP telecommunications systems.

Required Skills/ Knowledge:

• At least 10 years’ experience as a radio access network, telecommunications testing or commissioning engineer on large-scale Australian infrastructure or rail projects.
• An engineering degree suitable for full membership with Engineers Australia and eligibility for RPEQ registration.
• Demonstrated experience in testing and commissioning GSM-R, GSM, 4G, 5G and IP telecommunications networks.
• Collaborative communication style, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering and delivery teams.
