The opportunity

The User Experience (UX/UI) Designer is an integral member of the User Experience practice, working directly with product, engineering and delivery teams. The role partners with product managers, product owners and domain experts to establish an evidence-based product vision for a complex power-automation engineering ecosystem.

The environment for which we are seeking a specialist combines technical configuration workflows, multiple applications and interfaces of a different age, specialised user roles, safety- and reliability-sensitive operations, and dependencies among software, devices and engineering processes.

We are seeking an experienced UX professional to work independently on engineering applications UX/UI. The successful candidate will perform research work based on identified product needs, plan UX/UI work, map complex engineering workflows, conduct stakeholder and user interviews, evaluate usability of existing applications and produce high-quality, evidence-based UX deliverables.
This position requires effective communication, good problem framing skills, proactive ownership, attention to detail, timely delivery and the ability to build productive stakeholder relationships through evidence and design thinking.
The initial focus is to understand the engineering environment, workflows, target users, risks and product opportunities, and to establish a reliable foundation for future product and design decisions.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Plan and execute an end-to-end design thinking process.
  • Work with product and engineering stakeholders to clarify business objectives, scope, assumptions and decision points.
  • Review existing documentation, issue reports, backlog items, designs, training materials and technical artefacts.
  • Prepare research activities, interview scripts, usability-testing scenarios and information synthesis approaches.
  • Conduct stakeholder interviews and contextual or workflow-focused user interviews.
  • Map complex, multi-stage engineering and configuration workflows, including inputs, outputs, decisions, dependencies, error conditions, handovers and workarounds.
  • Identify where workflows are fragmented across applications, scripts, documents or manual processes.
  • Distinguish validated evidence from assumptions, stakeholder opinions and technical constraints.
  • Convert findings into role-based user archetypes, jobs-to-be-done, journey or workflow maps, service blueprints, use cases and clear problem statements.
  • Build a traceable relationship between research evidence, user needs, risks, application capabilities and UX recommendations.
  • Produce a prioritized UX opportunity backlog and contribute UX evidence to product strategy and roadmap decisions.
  • Define UX and UI requirements to deliver a consistent experience across touchpoints.
  • Present complex findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Your Background

  • 3+ years of professional UX experience, including experience in one of the following disciplines: Information Architecture, Product Design or Service Design, with a strong research component.
  • Demonstrable work on at least one substantial UX/UI project for a complex enterprise, industrial, engineering, scientific, healthcare, financial, cybersecurity or other specialist system.
  • Experience researching complex workflows or systems.
  • Ability to model complex dependencies and alternative flows.
  • Evidence of turning ambiguous and conflicting stakeholder input into actionable design delivery plan.
  • Strong synthesis skills: affinity analysis, workflow mapping, service blueprinting, user archetypes, jobs-to-be-done and problem framing.
  • Experience conducting UX audits or heuristic evaluations of mature applications.
  • Ability to communicate research findings in a concise, decision-oriented form.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Professional English sufficient for interviews, workshops and documentation in an international environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in design, computer science, information sciences and/or HCI is a plus.
  • Experience facilitating workshops with senior, technical and cross-functional participants is a plus.
  • Experience with industrial automation, energy, utilities, engineering software, products that combine software with physical devices or embedded systems, or configuration tools is a strong plus.
